IX. Physician Services by Primary Care Specialists

A. Survey Response Summary

A provider survey was conducted by sending a need questionnaire (refer to the appendix for sample) to all known practicing physicians in the community along with a cover letter from DRIS explaining the purpose of the survey. A follow-up survey and letter from a physician member of the Lompoc Valley Healthcare Council was sent to providers who did not respond to the first mailing of the survey. The local coordinator also assisted in this process. Confidentiality of information was a concern among the providers.

Reporting errors were recognized during the tabulation of the data, again, questioning the reliability of the information. Some of the answers to the questions are thought to have been based on best guess rather than on factual data about the practice. This is most likely due to lack of specific information that is readily tracked by computerization or lack of interest in the DRIS project.

The survey tool used for this study has been used in the past to conduct a telephone survey.
