C. Employers Offering Health Benefits

Large Employer Surveys

All of the employers in this group provide employer sponsored health benefits for their employees. Benefits include sick time, paid time off for any purpose, and medical savings accounts.

Table 8.4 provides data as to the number of employers providing health benefits and number of full and part-time employees eligible to receive employer provided health benefits. There are 13 employers providing coverage with 90 percent or 2,540 of their employees eligible to receive health benefits. The number of full-time employees receiving benefits is 2,374 and part-time employees number 435. Table 8.5 provides information for the full-time employees eligible to receive health benefits.

Small Employer Surveys

Nineteen of the 44 small employers or 43 percent do not provide employer sponsored health benefits for their employees. Reasons indicated for not providing benefits included: 1) too costly, 2) current employees are receiving benefits through spouse, or 3) employees are independent contractors.
